Diagnostic
Testing Utilized for Vestibular Disorders
- Binocular
Vision Screen:
- Computerized
diagnostic study to screen for eye muscle dysfunction.
- Indications: evaluating
patients with oculomotor dysfunction which may contribute to
dizziness and imbalance. This study assists in the development
of a comprehensive balance rehabilitation program.
- Brainstem
Auditory Evoked Response (BAER):
- Functional
computerized analysis of brainstem sensory conduction pathways
utilizing auditory signals.
- Indications: dizziness,
tinnitus, balance instability, post-concussion syndrome, hearing
difficulties, multiple sclerosis, acoustic neuroma, symptoms
of brainstem dysfunction.
- Computerized
Dynamic Posturography (CDP):
- Functional
assessment of balance by selective evaluation of the vestibular,
visual, somatosensory and motor respoonse systems utilized in
maintaining posture.
- Indications: dizziness,
balance instability, frequent falling, vestibular disturbance,
assist in planning therapy, gait unsteadiness.
- Infra-red
Video Electronystagmogram (ENG):
- Functional
assessment of the vestibuloocular system by computerized recording
of eye movement at rest, with positional challenges, and following
vestibular stimulation.
- Indications: dizziness,
vertigo, lightheadedness, balance instability, nystagmus.
- Vestibular
Autorotation Test (VAT):
- Functional
assessment of the vestibuloocular reflex by computerized recording
of the ability of the eyes to remain focused during head movement.
- Indications: dizziness,
lightheadedness, balance instability, post-concussion complaints,
oscillopsia.
