Pictorial Overview of ITB Operative Implant Procedure

  • Insert a needle and place the catheter at the appropriate spinal location.
  • Confirm the catheter placement using fluoroscopy.

 
  • Withdraw the needle and guidewire.
  • Make an incision at the appropriate site. 

 
  • Make an incision in the abdominal area.
  • Create a subcutaneous pocket for the pump.

 
  • Tunnel the catheter to the pump pocket and connect to the pump.
  • Anchor the catheter securely.

 
  • Place the pump in the pocket and close the insicion.
  • An external programmer is used to communicate with the pump to change parameters to opimize the spasticity control.
