Henry Moreta, M.D.
Dr. Moreta graduated from Harvard Medical School (1977). Postgraduate training included medical internship and neurology residence at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital and North Shore University Hospital, where he was the Chief Resident. He is a former Instructor in neurology at Cornell Medical College, and is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology. Dr. Moreta is a former member of the medical board at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. Dr. Moreta is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialty of Neurology. Dr. Moreta joined the practice in 1982 and is the President of South Shore Neurologic Associates, P.C.
Mark Gudesblatt, M.D.
Dr. Gudesblatt graduated from Johns Hopkins University (1976) and from Cornell University Medical College (1980). Postgraduate training included a Medical Internship and Neurology Residency at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was the Chief Resident, as well as a Clinical Research Fellow in Neuromuscular Disease awarded by the National Institute of Health. Dr. Gudesblatt is the Chief of Neurology and former member of the Medical Board at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. He is the medical director of the Comprehensive MS Care Center at South Shore Neurologic Associates, PC.
Dr. Gudesblatt is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialty of Neurology, is a diplomate in the American Academy of Pain Management, and has had additional training in Neuro-Rehabilitation.
He is a member of the: Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation, a co-Medical Director of the Suffolk County American Parkinson's Disease Association's chapter support group at Good Samaritan Hospital and the Huntington's Disease Suffolk County Chapter support group, and has served on the advisory boards of: The Thomas Hartman Foundation for Research in Parkinson's Disease, Suffolk County American Parkinson's Disease (APDA) Chapter, and the Hope For A Cure Foundation, and the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. He is currently at member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Epilepsy Society. He currently serves as a member of The National Scientific Advisory Board for the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation, and is also a Technical Advisor to Medtronic.
Dr. Gudesblatt has authored articles appearing in professional literature on numerous topics, including movement disorders, tumors of the brain and spinal cord, neurologic complications of pregnancy, stroke, familial inheritance of neurologic illness and multiple sclerosis.
Dr. Gudesblatt joined the practice in 1985.
Steven A. Rosen, M.D.
Dr. Rosen graduated from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (1985). Postgraduate training included medical internship at the University of Maryland and neurology residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Rosen has subspecialty expertise in neurotology and is the neurotology consultant for the Balance Therapeutics Laboratory at South Shore Neurologic Associates, P.C. He is also the Medical Director of the Stroke Service at North Shore/LIJ -Southside Hospital. He received his M.B.A. in Healthcare Administration from Regis University in 2005. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialty of Neurology, and also by the American Society of Neurorehabilitation. Dr. Rosen has authored articles appearing in professional literature on a variety of neurologic topics, including infection, dementia, seizure, vascular disease and neuro-otology. Dr. Rosen joined the practice in 1989.
David Besser, M.D.
Dr. Besser graduated from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara School of Medicine (1985), Postgraduate training included medical internship at Brookdale Hospital, neurology residency at State University of New York – Downstate and a fellowship in neuromuscular neurology and electromyography at the University of Vermont School of Medicine. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology, voluntary faculty, at SUNY – Stony Brook. He is a former member of the medical board at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Besser is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialty of Neurology, and by the New York State Department of Education in Acupuncture. He has authored article appearing in professional literature on peripheral neuropathy. Dr. Besser joined the practice in 1990.
Samson Mebrahtu, M.D.
Dr. Mebrahtu graduated from the State University of New York – Downstate (1986). Postgraduate training included medical internship at the New York Medical College and neurology residency at State University of New York-Downstate, where he was Chief Resident. He is a former Instructor in neurology at Cornell Medical College / Hospital for Special Surgery, and completed his fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular disease at Cornell New York Hospital and the Hospital for Special Surgery. He has co-authored articles appearing in professional literature on peripheral neuropathy and neurophysiology. Dr. Mebrahtu is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialty of Neurology. He is the Director of Neurodiagnostic Medicine at South Shore Neurologic Associates, PC. Dr. Mebrahtu joined the practice in 1991.
Norman L. Pflaster, M.D.
Dr. Pflaster graduated from Chicago Medical School (1987). Postgraduate training included medical internship at Mount Sinai Hospital, neurology residency at the University of Michigan Hospital, and a fellowship in electroencephalography and epilepsy at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. Pflaster is a former Assistant Professor of Neurology at Columbia University, a former Assistant Attending Neurologist at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and the former Head of Electroencephalography at Harlem Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialty of Neurology, and by the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology. Dr. Pflaster has authored articles appearing in the professional literature on epilepsy. He is the co-director of the Epilepsy Treatment program at South Shore Neurologic Associates, PC. Dr. Pflaster joined the practice in 1997.
Hugh Xian, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Xian graduated from Lanzhou Medical College, People's Republic of China (1982) and received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School (1992). He is a former Research Associate in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and Research Fellow in the Laboratory of Neurophysiology, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the National Institutes of Health. Postgraduate medical training included medical internship at Brooklyn Hospital Center and neurology residency at the New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Xian is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialty of Neurology. He has authored numerous articles appearing in professional literature on neuropharmacology and neurophysiology. Dr. Xian joined the practice in 2000.
Edward Firouztale', D.O., DSc
Dr. Firouztale' graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (1997). He received his Doctor of Science degree in Bio-engineering and Chemical Engineering from Columbia University (1979). He is a former Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University and a former senior research engineer in bioprocessing and chemical engineering. Postgraduate medical training included medical internship and neurology residency at Long island Jewish Medical Center, where he was Chief Resident, and a fellowship in epilepsy at the same institution. Dr. Firouztale is certified by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialty of Neurology. Dr. Firouztale' has authored numerous articles appearing in the professional literature on various subjects in the fields of biomedical and chemical engineering. Myassar Zarif, M.D.
Dr. Zarif graduated from Techreen University with honors (1988). Postgraduate training included medical internship at the National Military Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, internal medicine residency at St. Joseph's Hospital, residency in neurology at SUNY Health Science at Stony Brook, and in neurobehavioral and neuroimmunology at SUNY Stony Brook. Dr. Zarif joined the practice in 2004.
Michael Z. Guo, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Guo graduated from Hunan Medical University (1988). Postgraduate training included internal medicine internship at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, residency in neurology at Tufts University School of Medicine and a fellowship in Neuromuscular Disease/ALS at Columbia University School of Medicine. Dr. Guo is Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Guo joined the practice in 2004.
Philippe Vaillancourt, M.D.
Dr. Vaillancourt graduated from McGill University (1978). Postgraduate training included Psychiatry, Medicine and Neurology internship at New York University Medical Center and a residency in neurology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Vaillancourt is Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with special qualifications in Pain Management, and also by the American Board of Pain Medicine. Dr. Vaillancourt joined the practice in 2005.
Bhupinder Singh Anand, M.D.

Bonnie Rosen, M.D.
Dr. Rosen graduated from the University of Maryland (1988). Postgraduate training included medical internship at the University of Maryland Hospital, radiology residency at State University of New York – Stony Brook, where she was Chief Resident, and a fellowship in neuroradiology at the same institution. Dr. Rosen is the Director of Neuroradiology at Brookhaven MRI. Dr. Rosen is certified by the American Board of Radiology and is a senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology. She is an adjunct Assistant Professor of Radiology at the State University of New York – Stony Brook. Dr. Rosen joined the practice in 1994.
