Neuro Nurse Practitioners
Barbara Bumstead, M.S., ANP-C, MSCN
Ms. Bumstead, a Nurse Practitioner in our Comprehensive MS Care Center, here at South Shore Neurological Associates P.C., graduated from Nursing School in 1979 and received a Masters of Science in the Adult Health Nurse Practitioner program at SUNY Stony Brook in 1999. Ms. Bumstead has had extensive hospital experience in Neurology, Neurosurgery, and in the management of Intrathecal Baclofen therapy. She became a Multiple Sclerosis Certified Nurse (MSCN) in 2007. Ms. Bumstead joined our practice in 2001.
Smitha Thotam, M.S., NP-C
Ms. Thotam is a Nurse Practitioner for the Comprehensive MS Care Center, here at South Shore Neurologic Associates, P.C. Ms. Thotam completed her Bachelor of Science degree with honors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, India in 1996. She is a certified Adult Nurse Practitioner and received a Master of Science in Adult Health Nursing from SUNY- Stony Brook in 2011. She has extensive experience in medical, surgical, rehabilitation, and critical care fields. Ms. Thotam joined our practice in 2011.
Laura Buck, M.S., NP-C, CNRN
Ms. Buck is the Nurse Practitioner for our Epilepsy Center, here at South Shore Neurologic Associates P.C. and is a certified Adult Nurse Practitioner. Ms. Buck received a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Fashion Institute of Technology in 1991, her nursing degree from Suffolk Community College in 2006, and Master of Science in Adult Health from SUNY- Stony Brook in 2011. Ms. Buck is a Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN) from the American Association of Neuroscience Nursing. Ms. Buck joined our practice in 2011.
Marijean Buhse, NP-C, Ph.D
Dr. Buhse is a professor at Stony Brook University and Nurse Practitioner in our Comprehensive MS Care Center here at South Shore Neurologic Associates P.C. She received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from SUNY Downstate, her Masters of Science in Nursing from Lehman College, her Post Masters Certificate from Adelphi University, and her Ph.D. in Nursing from Adelphi University. Ms. Buhse joined our practice in 2012.
Danielle Salomone, M.S., ANP
Ms. Salomone has a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education/Physical Science from College of Charleston, a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from St. Xavier University, as well as a Masters of Science from the Adult Nurse Practitioner program at SUNY Stony Brook University. She is a Nurse Practitioner who assists our Physicians at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital as well as seeing patients at our practice. Ms. Salomone joined our practice in 2013.
Daniel ippolito, RN, ANP
Mr. Ippolito is a Nurse Practitioner for the Pain Management Group here at South Shore Neurologic Associates, P.C. He is a certified Adult-Geriatric Nurse Practitioner and received his Nursing degree from Suffolk Community College in 2013, a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from SUNY-Cortland in 2008, and a Master of Science in Nursing as a Primary Care Adult-Geriatric from SUNY–Stony Brook in 2017. Mr. Ippolito joined our practice in 2017.
Elissa Kravis, RN, M.S., ANP
Ms. Kravis has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from SUNY University at Buffalo and a Masters of Science degree from the Adult-Gerontological Nurse Practitioner program at SUNY Stony Brook University. As a student, her clinical training was heavily focused on the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of neurological conditions. During her time as a Registered Professional Nurse, she served as a vital component of the care team at St. Francis Hospital’s Heart Center for over five years. Ms. Kravis has been a part of our practice since 2018.
Karen McDonald, RN, M.S., FNP-BC
Ms. McDonald holds a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and a Master's degree from Hofstra University's Family Nurse Practitioner program. Serving as both a Registered Nurse and a board-certified Nurse Practitioner throughout her career has granted her the opportunity to care for patients in both the hospital and in private practice across a variety of surgical and clinical specialties. Her current practice focuses on assisting our Physicians in treating patients suffering from Epilepsy and other general neurologic conditions. Ms. McDonald joined SSNA in 2021.
