Dr. Christina Burke and our Balance and Physical Therapeutics Team are participating in a Parkinson's Disease research project with Touro College. The project involves patients with Parkinson's participating in the LSVT BIG therapy program for four weeks.  Patients are being asked to commit to coming for physical therapy 2-3x/week for 12 sessions to perform the BIG program.  Visits will be billed through insurance as regular therapy visits and patients will receive any additional therapy modalities as prescribed by their physical therapist during their initial evaluation.

The LSVT BIG program is a high intensity series of exercises meant to help with patients that experience hurried and diminished movements (i.e. shuffling, reduced arm-swing, small movements etc.), often due to neurologic diseases like PD, which increases their risk for falls and related injuries. These exercises are meant to become a part of daily living and have shown to be effective in normalizing the movements of patients. The purpose of this study is to see if reducing the prescribed 4x/week down to 2-3x/week will alter the efficacy of the program.
